Food boxes for our families

Helping families in need is a community effort.  That is why “Community” is part of our name.  The New Shiloh Christian Center is working in Melbourne to give out USDA food boxes to the needy in our area.

Community of Hope was grateful to be able to take advantage of this.  On April 13th we distributed 50 boxes of food to needy families in Melbourne and Palm Bay.  Most of them went to families in our programs.  There were a few we gave to neighbors who we knew were in need.

What is a USDA food box? It is part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.  The boxes are supplied by government contractors.  They contain fresh produce, dairy (like a gallon of milk, block of cheese, sour cream, ect.) and cooked chicken or pork. They are produced locally, package, and delivered to a food bank like the one at New Shiloh Christian Center.
