…if it was God’s will for us for us to purchase the property …
Riverwalk Apartments (4-plex) is the latest project that Community of Hope has on the drawing boards.
The owners notified us in January saying that they wanted to make their property available to us for use in helping others.
When I visited the 4-plex for the first time I could see that a Community of Hope could exist at 1415 Roosevelt Avenue, Melbourne, FL.
I had the sense that if it was God’s will for us to purchase the property that it would indeed happen. Jerry, the current landlord stood in agreement with me.
It has been amazing to see what has happened since January. After a few months of ongoing talks with Jerry along with the Boards discernment,
we decided to seek the funding necessary to purchase the properties. Yes, I said ‘properties’ because in addition to the 4-plex there is an
adjoining piece of property that will provide us with enough land to build a duplex. We thought if we could come up with 20% of the purchase
price ($425k) that we could borrow the rest from a bank.
In April, after writing a grant for the Hurricane Housing Recovery Program, we received an acknowledgement letter from the
Brevard County Affordable Housing Council (AHC). They evaluated our project and recommended us for approval by the
Brevard County Board of County Commissioners for 65% of the purchase price or $280K. Is God wonderful or what!
Now we are pursuing additional funding to make the ‘deal’ a reality for Community of Hope and the families who will occupy this transitional housing.
